My local Porsche centre installed my dashcams but I am having problems with the Porsche Dashcam iPhone app and my Macan 4S. I have to switch off the iPhone WiFi connection with the car in order to be able to link the app to the dashcams. It seems like the Porsche will not allow another device to connect when iplayer is connected ? Anyone else having issues ?

That is normal: the phone can be connected to one or the other, not both at the same time.
It's a known limitation of the Porsche Dashcam, although to be fair, there are other dashcams that behave the same way.

But between the high price of the Porsche OEM offer, it's bulkiness and this limitation, it's one of the worst options available I'm afraid.

Same problem with all dashcams. I have the battery backup and turn the car off (Apple CarPlay is then off) to access the camera files.

Yeah I stupidly thought the pre-wiring option mean you can literally plug and play the Porsche dashcam, making the $500 sub-par dashcam worth it. But nope, on top of the overpriced dashcam, need to pay a dealer thousands of dollars to install it, more than an aftermarket dashcam installed by a shop. I can't even...

Yup i think this is a known thing since the Taycan. Believe this was discussed on another thread somewhere.

Do you know why parking mode doesn’t work - the marketing info makes a big play of this Function.

I only went with the Porsche dashcam because UK Customer Service told me if I had an after market one fitted then the warranty for any electrical problems (particularly 12v battery issues) could be Invalidated. I didn’t believe them but not worth the risk. In fairness the installation cost by the dealer isn’t too much more than others. Also, Porsche say that the dashcam may have issues if fitted in a car with thermally / noise reduction glass - I checked with the dealer and they said no prob. If it doesn’t work they can take it out and refund me the £ 950 supply and install.

If you were told it was plug and play you were misinformed. The prewire is simply running a video cable from the rear to the front camera area. A Porsche dealer will not install the rear camera without the cable. The reason you had it prewired is that its the only way to get a rear camera installed by a Porsche dealer should you ever change your mind.

Regardless, they need to pull trim panels and headliners to get at the pre wired connectors and run a power wire to one of the rear fuse boxes. So it is still a lot of work. There are install instructions posted somewhere to give you a rough idea.

Seems maybe a bit neater than aftermarket.

There are several discussions about the camera, there are many that like them and the integration with the car.

I don't know why. I'm waiting for my dealer's.

Thank you for the comments guys,

my dealer has raised a ticket with Porsche UK and Porsche AG with a view to finding a resolution to the issue. I will keep you posted

If you can find out why on the Macan the parking mode must be set to off, please share.

if you get a dashcam that uses cloud connection then you can keep the same wifi SSID as long as there is internet to support it. My blackvue uses that. there you have the option to connect directly through its own ssid like the porsche or leave the WIFI of the car and still connect to the camera through the cloud. so you have the best of both worlds. Although the speed compared to direct Wifi is of course not the same.
