I'm not convinced that the expected tariff will ever take effect, and if it does, it probably won't last very long. The tariffs are nothing but a bit of blustering and a threat, and the parties involved will likely negotiate something to avoid a tit-for-tat.
Trump is not rational; he doesn't care if he burns down economies -- in fact, he seems to want to do exactly that, to get back at the world for being so "mean" to him. It seems that Trump just likes to see people squirm and get angry, so he can sit back and enjoy watching the spectacles that he creates. The tariffs are in place on metals and on Canada/Mexico, are they not?

Mine is on the Daisy Leader between Bermuda and Cuba, heading for Panama and through the canal. No way it gets to port in LA and clears prior to the supposed April 2nd date of tariff announcements. Lots of anxiety playing beat the clock. Maybe the announcement and/or date of implementation will push. Lets hope so.
How were you able to determine which boat yours is on? Iā€™ve followed the links posted on this forum for the shipping company, but none of the dates the shippers have posted match up with the February 27 departure date for my 4S (nothing close). Iā€™ve also clicked around on the maritime tracker site, and I can find no ship whose path resembles the path shown for my car in the TYD section of the app.

Maybe mine is just swimming itself across the Atlantic, all by its cute little self, stopping to visit friends/recharge in Nova Scotia and Baltimore along the way, as depicted on the app? šŸ™ƒ

Your sales agent can look it up in their system. That's how I found what boat mine was on, because it wasn't one of the ones listed in the how-to.

Actually, Canada and Mexico are exempted from the metals tariffs after the countries came to an agreement on some trade issues. That's my point, the tariffs are mostly a threat to get what Trump wants. I expect the US and Europe to work out something as well.
I think you're wrong. Canada and Mexico are not exempt. And temporary stays of automobile tariffs on those countries go into effect on April 2. I do not think that the EU will be able to do anything to pacify Trump, just as Canada and Mexico have not been able to. As I said, Trump is not rational; he can never admit he's wrong about anything, and indeed he tends to dig deeper and become more stubborn ("doubling down") when there's a suggestion that he's wrong on something. If I had to bet, I'd not bet against huge US tariffs on automobiles from Germany on April 2.

Pretty sure the 25% went into effect but the increase to 50% was deferred when Ontario agreed to defer a surcharge on the electricity they export to the US.

Porsche must be in a very difficult place, they're at severe risk of being shut out of the US market but there is an upside for us Europeans - Teslaā€™s market in Europe and UK will similarly melt (already dropped 50%) so hopefully weā€™ll be lectured less by Musk as he will be busy trying to stay the wealthiest man in the world and also there will far fewer Tesla reviews !

Looks like Musk will have to use his experience running DOGE on the rest of Teslaā€™s staff, as he already has to the Supercharger department.

We had Liz Truss who trebled and quadrupled mortgage rates. You have Mr Trump doing this to you. It's hard to understand what makes those people tick.
My take: it is far easier to understand their behavior once you know who is paying them.

IOW, $300M in support for Trumpā€™s campaign has bought Musk/Tesla a lot of protection against competitive EVs. While I am not saying that Teslas compete with Porsches on an apples-to-apples basis, certainly when 25% is tacked onto the price of a Porsche, many people will reevaluate their willingness to splurge, me included. I mean, I know this isnā€™t a value purchase, butā€¦ There is a limit.

BMW has announced that they will absorb the possible tariffs through May 1st - and may pass them to the customers after that.

Not heard anything similar from Porsche so it's anyone's guess what'll happen.
Thanks for the article link. In reading, it says only the 3-series sedan, 2-series coupe, and the M2 from its plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Did I miss something? I presume these are ICE as well.

I may be wrong but, as I understand these things, any US government tariff would be charged on the price paid for the car on import by the importer, in this case Porsche USA. This will be considerably lower than the price paid for the car by the eventual customer because this includes the not inconsiderable markups applied by both Porsche USA and the selling dealer after import. So a $100k (retail) car will not go up by $25k, but more likely by $10-15k, this assuming that Porsche USA do not absorb any of the tariff, which I suspect they will.

Correct. The tariff is X% of the amount paid to the exporting country to purchase the good.
