In my limited testing, I’ve found that using Active Parking Support in finding and parking a hit and miss experience, mostly a miss. So i went back to my dealer to see how to use this feature. Surprisingly, the SA admits that most of his customers don’t use it since it’s quite unreliable (i.e. have run into cars and things); he warns that i should be very cautious if i use this function. My dealership doesn’t allow its use in their own parking lot.

Has anyone found the Active Parking Support to be reliable and use it regularly?

On London's narrow streets this is very much a non starter. I've only been able to use it once or twice in a parking space which was so wide that I didn't need the parking assistance :)

I use it all the time as I'm terrible at parallel parking in tight spaces. While car shopping this feature was a must have for me. Prior I had a Tesla Model S which works very well. The Macan is only okay and takes a while to get used to and trust. Once I understood it's technique I can use it confidently now. My wife still closes her eyes everytime as the passenger.

Two weeks as a 4S owner & have found it difficult to use... although I rarely used it with my model S, glad it's not just me...

I've played with it but don't use it regularly.

The first time I used it to parallel park on a dark street in a tight spot. The car did a better job than I could have.

The second time I parked in a head-in spot, and the car parked with the right tires on the white line. I had plenty of room to open my door, but the passenger or the driver of the car to my right would have struggled to open their door.

I have never yet managed to get this feature to work. But I've stopped trying. I'm waiting for my next dealer trip to ask them for a tech visit to teach me how to do it.

Good to know someone has found it useful. How were you able to understand its technique? Is there a tutorial or a video you used as reference?

I wish I could give you a solid technique but it just takes practice to see the window. My Tesla had a huge window so you could engage it early or later. With the Macan you need to engage it just before you reach the opening, drive slow until you are maybe a 1/2 car length past the spot then push then keep pushing the box until the "P" appears then follow the instructions on the screen. It does work and it works well once it recognizes the spot.

You don’t need to engage it before getting to the spot you want to park in. The car always scans for suitable spaces, you can activate Park Assist after you have already passed the spot and still be able to select it on the PCM screen.
Good to know. Perhaps it didn't work for me at first so I switched. I'll try that again.

i wonder how close it gets to the curbs... it looks like it works pretty well.

About 2”. I carefully monitored that since I was concerned about my RS Spyders getting scratched. The fact that the car got that close to the curb without any problems is why I wrote that it did a better job than I could have on a dark street with a space not much larger than the car.

I've used it a few times on fairly small spaces and it works very well. I was also afraid of the curbs but it stays nicely a bit away from them.
