Has anyone else encountered this? I live on curvy, dark country roads with speed limits well below 40mph and this is when I need this feature most! Does Porsche do this on other models or only Macan EVs? ( new Macan 4 in USA.)

Same on all Porsches.

So can't you leave your brights always on??

Yes, of course, but you must toggle them off every time a car approaches from opposite side, which is the point of auto dimming.

Auto high beams are pretty common, and I believe I saw it in the US manual.

Adaptive High Beams are what generally isn't available in the US because DOT / NHTSA made the technical requirements for it much tighter than what Europe uses. Why use something that has worked well somewhere for a decade and is still faster to make adjustments than a human when you could mandate something even better and delay the rollout by years?

PDLS+ (auto beam) is standard and Matrix SD / HD enhances this except if you live in NA.

Unfortunately I can confirm that also Matrix system works only when you exceed the 60 km/h. Not so nice when you live on the mountain and in the first 20 km you drive every morning (early in the morning) the longest straight is 50 meters long....
