When I start driving a long distance, it would be energy-efficient if the battery was a bit warm instead on +1C when I start. At home, the car is connected to the charging device and battery is full. Is it possible to heat the battery with the charger somehow, since there is no specific button for it? This way, the range would be longer.... Any idea ?

I was wondering the same thing. I have never seen my battery warmer than ambient temperature by 1 or 2 degrees C. I am in cold temperatures like Finland and even after driving 45 minutes or more, the battery temperature barely moves, and stays below freezing if the weather is cold enough. That doesn't seem normal.

Set a departure time and charge level - your battery should be heated at that time.

We set the departure time for 30 minutes before we expect to leave and also set the cabin (front & rear) to heat (or cool) at the same time. Real world results are usually a warmer battery, but not an optimally warm (85-90 degrees F) battery.

I do not believe this is correct.

85F-90F is more optimal for fast DC charging rather than normal driving conditions when the battery discharges during use or charges via regen. The temperature that is more optimal for that is in a 68F-77F. However, the reason that the battery does not heat up much from the ambient (I noticed it likes to stay in a 50F range) is that the eBMS system that is more intelligent than us clearly thinks that heating up the battery above ambient is not efficient since the battery is very large and takes a lot of energy to heat to the "sweet spot" operating temperature.

70F (21.5C) is the vehicle trip efficiency sweet-spot.

I think there is some confusion between preheating the cabin and preconditioning the battery temperature here.. They appear to be different goals. I always display the battery temperature in the instrument cluster (right tube) which is not there by default. So seeing the difference is a bit more obvious to me.

I am only getting preconditioning of the battery temperature with the charging planner and that is very dependent on the settings for minimum charge and if the charging station is the appropriate number of miles into your route or not.

I have seen the charging planner keep my battery heated when I am due for a charge or overdue for a charge. It would be much more straightforward if you could set a charging station as a destination and arrive with your battery pre-heated (or cooled as the case may be). I‘m planning to write a review and bring some of these things up as I’ve had almost 6 months now driving my Macan.

You are missing the point a bit. I am not speaking about charghing at all. I am asking that :
  • in the evening my car is in my home fully charged
  • At late morning i am starting my trip to far away, and i need as much range as i can provide. Outside temp is minus celcius , and that means my battery in +1C. And that provides range of about 400km.
  • So my car is during the night in my home and connected to wall but no charging. i would like to preheat my battery for getting longer range without using battery energy...
  • It is 402km to my old hometown and some extra kilometers would solve my problem totally.......

i think if you set a departure time it should be ready for it including battery temperature
