How do I know my rear wheel steering is working?

Good day all.

I'm kind of embarrassed asking, but earlier today, as I was leaving an appointment with my friend, I asked him to check my rear tire, as it should pivot outward once I crank my steering wheel.

He told me he didn't see any change.

So.. Is there a way to confirm the RWS is operational?

You can see it from the side view mirror if you tilt it down... And you can you can feel it turns, as it sends to kick in later in turns
But remember, it's only 5 degrees iirc... Your friend may not have been looking closely enough

You don't need a second person to check. Turn the wheel full lock, drive a short distance and put the car in Park, then get out and check the rear wheels.

On top of @PrudentOcean ’s rec, if you’d rather stay in your car, you could also use the wheel cameras to confirm the rear wheels are turning.

Surround view, wheel cam, pick the rear wheels. Very cool to see in action, not as good as the Mercedes. Porsche does RWS very well, barely noticeable in the GT cars and very complimentary in the Macan.

I know it's supposed to only be 5 degrees... But... Does anyone see 5 degrees?

Five degrees for a wheel of that diameter is going to be roughly 1.3 inches (3.3cm) of movement on the outside edge. It should be visible but you’d need to really look for it.

Sounds like it isn’t enough to just turn your wheels while stopped, you have to be moving while turning for it to kick in?

i'm pretty sure you need to be moving or in drive...that's why using the camera's or the side view mirrors is the best way to see

The rear wheels will recentre when stationary.

Movement is almost imperceptible but if you have 360 surround the park assist display will also highlight the rear wheel angle depending on direction of movement.

Pointless option on the Macan IMHO given it is a small car.

In the US maybe but in Europe it’s the killer. I suggest you try parking in our tiny parking garages in any major European city.

It is small compared to a Panamera, Taycan and Cayenne - yes I've owned all 3.

It is classed as a compact SUV - clue is in the categorisation.

I have owned 2 RAS equipped Taycans so know what I'm talking about. I have a 7m parking slot where I have to park tail and nose between 2 concrete walls. I also park my wife's Macan there (a doddle) and the Panamera when I owned it which had no RAS and to be honest was just as easy to park. Both Taycan and Panamera (more or less same length) could be parked in one reverse and forward manoeuvre implying RAS didn't really contribute much to the parking.
