I am interested in the community‘s perspective on this: I have two alternative builds linked below. The 4S is pretty close to fully loaded (no HUD), and the turbo is performance optioned + leather interior, but otherwise pretty lean on extras. The price on both is pretty close to the same. From what I have been reading and a recent short test drive, the extra power in the turbo is impressive/amazing, but not necessarily “useful” because it is SO impressive/amazing. So, in the long run, would I be happier with the creature comforts in a loaded 4S, or sad that I don’t have the Turbo’s performance/cachet? Obviously, this is somewhat a matter of personal preference, but I am interested to hear thoughts from current owners.

Another question: has anyone got the off-road wheels? The SA strongly recommended against them, implying they were not as good looking IRL as they are in the configurator. I wonder if that is more a matter of taste…?

I have a fully loaded 4S with rear wheel steering and torque vectoring. The macan has always been a car they you need to push a bit to get that sporty feeling. When you do with the 4S ev, you are instantly exceeding legal speed limits. It makes me want to have a boxster :)
I imaging with the turbo it would almost become an annoyance. I do prefer the looks of the turbo though.

I am having a very similar internal debate for our 2nd potential Macan. But I keep telling myself to focus on substantial options on an S such as torque vectoring and rear wheel steering, avoid cosmetic items like race tex roof lining 🙂 even though I’ve always wanted it, and get the S.

i’m guessing as a percentage, you would lose less in resale on a turbo than a loaded S, as options depreciate the most.

wheels are an easy way to add $5000 to the cost. And I just happened to like the way the stock wheels look on the S much more than the turbo. In person, the stock turbo wheels have large, flat black triangles. just one guy’s opinion.

Turbo is in the league of its own. Special packaging and hardware setup is completely different from any other trim, plus the torque is off the charts. My dealer does not even have any slots for Turbos with several people in line with 9+ months wait as an estimate. Any other trim, no wait, and no takers. I can share hardware setup details on how Turbo is different and special, but these are the numbers.

So, clearly the Turbo can be used for pulling stumps out of the ground. The question you need to ask yourself is, "How often am I really going to be pulling stumps out of the ground?"

In Switzerland the price difference between a lean Turbo and a loaded 4S (same spec as the Turbo) is minimal .

As a general rule, 4S is the reasonable choice. Absolutely no doubt.

But I would only go 4S if that meant I'm saving money.
Between a loaded (bloated?) 4S and a lean Turbo at the same price, I'd pick the Turbo. Every. Single. Time.

And that’s what I did: bought a lean Turbo, with the key performance options and none of the fluff. And its superior (in my eyes) looks and vastly superior specs over other trims.

Icing on the cake? With the lease to buy within 3 months trick, I'd save thousands of dollars too, on the top of the line Macan!

My M3 is a "stripper" and I would have it no other way... It's me, the road, the car and my exhaust. I am "happy as a lark" too.

Re the Macan...I did the same at first. Configured a stripper "Turbo"...and a moderately optioned 4S.
Opted to go w the 4S.

Guess I will know come April if I made the right decision 😂

I quite liked the Turbo's throttle-induced oversteer. I think the 4S can do this too when equipped with PTV+ but it seemed much easier to do on the Turbo based on my test-drives. I liked that playfulness about it and together with the added exterior styling cues, turbonite badge, and standard alcantara headlining and PTV+, the Turbo made more sense for me. Like someone said, potentially better resale for the lean Turbo vs loaded 4S too, if that matters to you. In the end, make sure you drive both and go with what makes you happy from behind the wheel and from standing there just looking at it, beyond just specs.

I like front of the Turbo and the back of the 4s as I hate fake plastic vents. I like the prestige of owning the fastest car but the price of something that is still faster than 90% of the driving I will ever do. I don’t plan to resell and wanted it to feel very special inside so I maxed out leather and customization options but also included PTV and RWS for performance.

If they had a Turbo allocation and I had $20k spare then sure I would have got the turbo but for me the extra performance isn’t worth it when I know it will never be used.

In your configurations, the Aventurine Green 4S looks special. The black Turbo does not. Change the Turbo color to green and you’ve got a winner for almost exactly the same price!
BTW, I have the off-road design wheels and think they look great! Wheels, like color, are a very personal choice. Get whatever YOU like, not what your SA thinks.
