Porsche uses what the european laws require…
WLTP is just a way to declare and compare on the same basis.
It is EXACTLY the same with ICE cars which don’t meet WLTP(or NEDC before that) figures as well.

As mentioned, Porsche doesn't have a choice in the matter. Back when they first released the Taycan in the US they voluntarily used the EPA testing method that gives a lower mileage result and the car had 201 "miles" of range.

They've spent YEARS dealing with people calling the Taycan an inefficient car as a result, even as it's been proven to be one of the most efficient EVs.

They tried to give people the low end of the range so no one would be disappointed and it has, in my opinion, permanently stained the Taycan. I simply refuse to blame Porsche for playing the "range" game as much as possible as a result.

Macan 4 on 20s = 310 miles of highway range in summer
Macan Turbo on 20s = 290 miles of highway range in summer.
Deduct 7% for 21s and 10% for 22s.
Deduct 10% at 50F and another 10% for every additional 10F colder.
Deduct another 8% for every 5 mph over 65.

This is where I have the cars approx. pegged at. There are more factors, this is some very rough math, but it's a heckuva lot more useful than EPA & WTLP. Your range may vary but I think this is a solid chart.

Still, my BMW can attain almost WLTP from April to October …
So I will know from April how much off the numbers are or not.

Driving a Macan 4 on the sunny and warm Lisbon-Portugal and never saw range above 500Kms for a 100% charged battery. I would like to know the conditions Porsche used to advertise more than 600Kms of range.
Porsche advertise the range under WLTP conditions, just like every other manufacturer. Period. They don't advertise the range in the real world.

Why are people still people banging on about range?

Obviously, we have to wait 1 year to have the real efficiency over a year of usage…

I’m in the same boat: I will take delivery of my turbo this afternoon.
cold + new + “playing with new” behavior = all but efficiency!

I'm quite certain Porsche could have matched the iXs efficiency if they also disregarded looks for aerodynamics. But how many of us would buy the electric Macan if it looked to the ICE Macan as an iX looks to the X5? Not me, that's for sure.

*edit* the coefficient isn't the point. I'm quite certain Porsche could have made further design decisions to increase efficiency at the cost of aesthetics. The iX is one of the most efficient EVs available and I'm not convinced the Macan is actually far off when an apple for apple comparison is done. The iX has a larger battery capacity and will always have more range because of it.

I think it's natural to compare efficiency with other cars, as all manufacturers quote WLTP numbers. Even some comparison websites do that.

Interestingly, the Macan EV and BMW iX share the same drag coefficient: 0.25.

One doesn’t have an edge on the other aerodynamics-wise… but the former is (subjectively) much better looking.

For reference, the Macan ICE sits at 0.35 and the BMW X5 at 0.33.

The CX coefficient is the value by which to multiply the frontal section to calculate the penetration into the air. It does not depend on the section. If the BMW is larger, with the same CX coefficient, it will have a greater friction in the air.

That's what WLTP figure are best for. I'm talking about people who don't compare the WLTP with other cars, but instead the real world.
