[Poll] - Porsche charging specification lie? Macan is not allowing 11 kW max charge rate - capped at 40 amps? 9.6 kW max rate.

Can you get your Macan to charge at more than 9.6 kW from an AC EVSE?

I wonder why both of my ChargePoint Home Flex's set to 48 amps on 60 amp breakers have never reported more than 9.4kW to the Macan (that I've observed, anyway). The Macan itself typically reports 9.1 kW on these EVSE's. I wonder how you've gotten to 40.7 amps. Unless, possibly, under voltage so higher current to make up for it e.g. (although that's not how it should work, should it? What should the car be limiting: current or power?)
typically the car ignores voltage and managed amps/current…both the PMCC and the Tesla Gen3 Wall charger show "amps flowing through" it during charge session - and 40.7 seems to be the value my Macan pulls…which is odd - it should only pull 40 amps or less when it's talking to the PMCC since PMCC reports 40 amp maximum - all othre EV's using the PMCC pulled less than 40 amps - typically 39.5 or 39.7 amps or something like that…

Keep in mind that you need three phase power and a compatible EVSE to get more than so called 9.6 indicated anywhere in the world as far as I know (there are areas where 3 phase is common, others like the US where not).
I only had normal US split-phase 120/240V power with my ChargePoint Flex charger and my BMW iX. I routinely got 11kW.

Porsche's website now lists 2025 Macan as having a 9.6 kW onboard charger - this matches the specs of the Audi Q6

so at least they are no longer lying - I still find it hard to believe the rest of tghe world is 11 kW and the North American charger is 9.6 kW - and also their other EVs/Hybfrids are 11 kW vehicle's

but officially the car is now spec'd as 9.6 kW…

I'm going to leave this is the Porsche screwed up column and now they are covering their tracks.

Yes, I believe this change was made a couple of months ago. I'm with you in that I find it hard to believe that there is a hardware difference between the charger on North American Macans and the rest of the world. This, of course, does not change the fact that we who have had our Macans for a while were "promised" 11kW charging and are not getting it. I still assume this is a software setting but Porsche has not exactly been speedy in doing software fixes, have they. We may be stuck with the slower charging rate because of resistance in whatever process Porsche uses to fix things like this.

the real issue is figuring what "the truth" is

is it really 9.6 kW hardware limited
is it different
is it 11 kW
did porsche make a mistake with software
do they internally know it's a mistake
can they fix it
will they fix it
do they care

the truth of this situation is only known by a few people inside prosche, but I doubt they are even pursuing "resolving" it…so I doubt it's getting any bandwidth

Would a class action lawsuit work?
I'm not a fan - only the lawyers make out with those in my opinion - and this issue is actually small potatoes

but in my mind it's a proxy for does Porsche care about EV's enough to get it "right"…

for an engineeering centric company renowned for getting the details right - this particular area seems to have stymied them which is sadness in my mind

Well, I was asked to participate on the Porsche Advisors Club and every time they ask whether I would like new options or my opinion about the car I note the charging discrepancy and poor quality rear camera among any other opinion or complaint I have. Not sure it will make any difference, but maybe…

I also participate in the Porsche Advisors Club and this is a good place for feedback. Another is the lengthy JD Power Associates survey that comes some time after ownership.

I was very honest with feedback On our 992.1 911 and many shortcomings from software, to layout of the gauge cluster, etc. In both cases this will work into Porsche long term strategy. Example the 992.2 911 went to the all electronic gauge cluster, and had a refined interface that solved my 5 gauge cluster issue with only 3 visible through the steering wheel. This started in 2020, and I have a 2024. They are just implementing these changes after years of feedback in this area.

So if class action lawsuits are your thing, have at it. Will it have an impact on the next several years of production that is already planned, no. Automotive cycles of supply chain a planning get locked in for many years.

Software enhancements are the best short term fix. Porsche has been slow in this area, but hopefully improving.

Macan EV overall is really good in my opinion. Software bugs have been excessive and should have been better vetted given the long development cycle of this new platform and electronics. If you read all the learnings from previous Taycan owners that have shared here, some things have gotten better, some previous frustration areas still exist.

“That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong”.

Enjoy the journey.
