People mention ride quality difference between 20” and 22” wheels, but what about road noise? Any difference there?

I have the 22” RS Spyder and they are quite bouncy, something I am ok with though. But I also have quite a bit of road noise which is a bit disappointing. I have the acoustic glass, both front and side windows, so the noise seem to be from wheels only. Basically stays the same regardless of speed.

I also have the 20” Macan S as winter wheels but not tried them yet.
so far I haven't noticed anything "different" on the noise front - but I've also been not he phone or listening to music - I'll listen more closely and see if there is a difference I can detect

the loaner appears to lack noise insulation glass - and my turbo has it - so it may not be the "tires" I"m hearing if there is noise...

I'll do my best to evaluate…

Do you have summer tires on your 22 or all seasons?

Summer tires, the Bridgestone Potenza. The winter wheels have the Michelin X-ice.
Hum...I understand that summer tires should produce less noise than all-season tires, so, interestingly, you are noticing road noise. I have 20-inch all-seasons and do not hear any road noise. I do not have the thermal glass either.

I found a great noise difference inside the cockpit between my 4 (with 21" and acoustic glass) and the loaner (with 22" and without acoustic glass) that suggested me I made the right choice when I spec the acoustic glasses (even if they are expensive if you had to exchange them as I had to...)

macan has OTA
has not porsche tycan become ev of the year in us?
Ok, my SGN 4s has not delivered (mid August- on a boat) so I'm just basing the lack-of-OTA thing on what other members said in this thread.

Yes on the Taycan and that Car and Driver video on their "Car of the Year" award is excellent. I enjoy that car immensely. I've gotten several as service loaners and I can only imagine how good the GTS and Turbo S are.

On the 20-21-22" wheel matter, I went with 21" Design wheel which I'm mediocre on - and I really don't care for any of the available wheels on the Macan EV in any size, with the exception of the RS Spider wheel. I have that wheel on my Macan GTS in 21" in default satin black and they make the car.

...on the Macan EV I find the RS Spider wheel to be the best, but I tested a demo car with that option and the ride was horrific on our roads. And frankly they just felt too big for the car when driving. I'm not a fan of Dubs - and Porsche keeps increasing the wheel sizes on the Macan each iteration. My 2018 Macan GTS had 20" RS Spiders.

With the lessor-ride comfort and less range, I had to veto the RS - but I really wish they'd come out with a 21" RS Spider wheel . In Vesuvius Grey that wheel is very attractive and makes the car. Especially in Slate Grey Neo, Provence, and Aventurine.

EV's are where smaller rims matter.

Do you have summer or all season on your 21” wheels?

Summer (Michelin Pilot Sport EV) tires on 21" Macan Design rims and winter (GoodYear ULTRAGRIP) tires on 20" Macan rims.

I took the standard 20 inch turbo wheels for winter and the 4s 20 inch as summer on my Turbo … I hate road noise and the comfort of anything bigger than the 20’s, even with air suspension is less then optimal, I even find my 20’s less comfortable then the 22’s on the iX … as a bonus you get lower consumption. The spider wheels, while beautiful on an ICE car look out of place on an EV, but that is personal of course. Now I do agree that the wheel designs for the Macan EV are lackluster at best … Would love to see some nice re-designs on the 20 front …

Audi has some better designs, if only they would have them in black:

Whichever tires you have make sure to only inflate to partial load. It will definitely improve the ride quality.

You’re right, those wheels by Audi are much nicer! Porsche should fire their wheels designer and contract with the Audi’s team.

My 22” are 45 psi and the ride is a bit rough, but fun. Anyone actually tried lowering to 39 psi on 22” to compare?

I've had a reasonably loaded 4 (RWS, HUD, 14 ways, heated windshield, leather package, pseudo matrix headlights, BOSE, rear wiper) with base 20s, since October, and I love it. It's more than quick enough, handles well enough for my needs, rides well and I've been averaging almost 4 mi./ kilowatt hour in warm weather (winter range is another story). MSRP was just over $94k.

I personally have no need for the added performance of the 4S, and at least officially the four has better range which is more important to me. So I would not want to see the four go away in favor of a comparably priced 4S.

If I had to do over again, I'd order almost exactly the same car, with a couple of minor tweaks. I understand Dave's point, but given the ability to order such a range of options anyway, I don't think the four levels of Macan EV is overwhelming. (BTW, I am coming from gen 1 Macan GTS.)
