Spot on! But not as simple either.It's not about not wanting the best of both worlds, but people making strange choices for the sake of a few miles of range, such as picking the most efficient rims as opposed to the rims that look the best. People have never done that for ICE cars, yet wide tyres on ICE cars have the same impact on fuel economy as they do on energy useage.
I think the range concern has more to do with the charging network situation: it is much easier to refill a gas tank than charge a car. More gas stations, everywhere.
People that are not already familiar with EV and/or have driven one, and who for the most part read everywhere that charging sucks and networks are always down, are understandably scared... and therefore make the decisions you mentioned.
I've been driving EV for years, done a bunch of road trips, and for the most part, the situation has drastically improved and I never worry about it anymore (and that was even before getting access to superchargers which make things even easier). It's just a learning curve.
