As noted above preconditioning helps, getting our battery up to best temp before leaving our garage.. We did that and changed 75% typical SOC limit to 100% on our iX before leaving on a fairly long day’s ride yesterday. Worked out well with our having our expected 25 miles in reserve when pulling back into the garage at the end of the day.

My Taycan used to show 198 miles on the range meter and then I'd drive it 250 miles on a road trip. In general it's going to show you the minimum range it thinks you have. The computer is guessing your range by analyzing your driving style, temperature, etc. It's accuracy can vary wildly.

350 miles for mixed use during the summer is likely possible. Some tests have shown that already. But cold & high speeds are the two worst enemies to range.

As you approach freezing your range will drop closer to 70% of maximum. So 350 becomes 245. Wind & rain can also really disrupt efficiency.

Once you start going above 70mph, things get bleak. 80mph can be as much as a 25% range loss vs 70 mph.

There's also a big difference between highway range and daily driving. Your daily driving efficiency will always be poor due to the car having to start up/heat/etc and not having enough time to balance out the efficiency.
Thanks for taking the time to explain all that. We had a Taycan Cross Turismo for 3 years, it always charged to 230 miles and we never ever managed to exceed that amount in Winter or Summer Driving.

General idea with preconditioning is to reach a battery temperature that is the best for efficiency (1) or fast charging (2)

(1) the main use case, is in cold morning. If you start with a cold battery, efficiency is bad, moreover, regen is limited. In the end, for the first miles, efficiency could be very bad.
The idea is to keep charging the battery until you are ready to go ; and, if the option is available in the car, to set the departure time: it will heat the battery to improve efficiency from the first mile/km!

(2) by setting a fast charger in the navigation system, few miles before the charging stop, the car will over consume to heat (or if it’s very very hot to cool) the battery.
In this case, it’s not directly related to efficiency (it degrades it during the preconditionning process!). The objective is to have the best charging curve possible, and to spare time.

As we know, in the Macan, we cannot just push a button to ask for preconditioning.
But there is a preconditioning button in the App. We use it an hour before we plan to leave the house and the car is still plugged into the charger.

Each (wind and rain) could be as costly as 10% less (assuming same speed under rain or not).
So, 300 miles in ideal conditions on the highway could become 240 miles with front wind / under rain ; and if it’s very cold, 30% less: 170 miles (worst case scenario).
During my 7 years of EV ownership, I’ve never experienced such a bad scenario!
It looks like we have been mis sold the vehicle and will probably be rejecting it under the U.K. sale of goods Act. I have retained all the sales emails and supplied data and will see what Porsche‘s response will be.

Ah, too bad.
check if you do need such a range in winter, if so, you will have to wait for next gen batteries, or in the meantime look at Lucid cars (they have a big big battery)

That’s the cost of doing business nowadays… customers lose their shxt for no reason.

I oversee a call center (among other things) and see this on a daily basis.

i may be in the same boat. I’ve just posted as below on a separate thread. Its not as if I’m not used to owning an electric car, so I’m surprised how sanguine people are about this issue.

I have just taken delivery of a Macan Turbo, 21 inch wheels, having owned a Taycan Turbo for 4.5 years.

When the Taycan was first released, its marketed range by Porsche was very conservative (in comparison to Tesla) but buyers were pleasantly surprised by range of 250-260 Summer miles with a new battery.

This gave me faith in Porsche as a company, as they under-promised and over-delivered.

I was therefore shocked this week when my Macan Turbo showed a 262 mile range on a full charge, with the outside temperature at 7.5 degrees centigrade.

Having checked here, it would seem that regen doesn’t kick in on the Macan until about 2000 miles, which ups the range , but how much difference can that really make? I’ve always driven the Taycan with Regen off as it feels like a more natural drive, and it doesn’t make much difference to the range.

The Macan Turbo is marketed as WLTP 367 miles which - even accounting for mild winter conditions in the UK - seems miles off.

Is anyone else concerned by this?

I bought the Macan Turbo to replace an old Macan S, and intended to use it as my long range vehicle, but I was expecting at least 310 miles in mild Winter conditions with a new battery.

Have Porsche started Over-promising and under-delivering like some of their competitors?

They most definitely have for the U.K. we have never ever got close to even 300 miles after being told by Porsche salesmen that 350 miles would be easily attained. Their own sales literature states 418.
