Model X and S going to Rivian R1S and Macan 4

I came from Tesla as well.

Model Y is a great EV and just ok car.

Macan will be a good EV and an amazing car.

You may also want to consider Rivian which is both a great EV and great car. The R1S is amazing and the R2 will be pretty much the perfect replacement for a Y.

Macan - the fun of driving, just an amazing car.
Rivian - the fun of adventure, just an amazing car.

Personally, I didn't option it, and I don't miss it. It's not a very big car, needing better turning radius.
Having tried a base 4 without and my Turbo with, I wholeheartedly stand by my statement above: such a nice to have (must have now that Iā€™ve tasted it).

As for the repeated ad nauseam ā€œitā€™s not a big carā€ piece, it certainly is not a Cadillac Escalade.
But Iā€™ve also shown the wheelbase of the Macan is pretty much the same as the Taycan/Cayenne (not considered small cars either) and with a wider turning circle than them.

I know your SA (and you by extension) didnā€™t see value in it - but I encourage you to give it a try to see the world of a difference it makes. Youā€™ll hate your SA for it and just might stop quoting him. šŸ™ƒ

But I get it, not knowing what itā€™s like, you canā€™t ā€œmiss itā€.

And as some have observed RAS doesn't engage anyway at very slow speeds, when, for example, parking in a garage.
When I was optioning with my SA, he said you really don't need it in this size car.
One (1) person made that comment and has left everyone perplexed. I wouldnā€™t use that odd case as fuel for the ā€œnot worth itā€argument.

Just my 2 pence.

Agree with your Tesla and Porsche comparison. Very much disagree about Rivian we had a terrible experience. Many many issues, terrible service availability. Suspension feels like youā€™re driving a vehicle from the 90s both in terms of noise and comfort. Ended up lemonā€™ing the vehicle, first vehicle Iā€™ve been forced to do that for.

get a Rivian if you want a Bronco that happens to be an EV - nothing wrong with a Bronco - but not my cup of tea - and driving the R1S I tested around in a parking lot was like maneuvering an aircraft carrier around a pondā€¦

I would be hard pressed to recommend a Rivian to anyone (and I own stock - {sigh}) - but different strokes - but not for me.

I was all in on Rivian until I read about their OS and that they don't and have no plans for CarPlay. Then the Macan came along finally and am glad I waited.

In the last 5 years I owned 3 teslas. M3P, MYP and lastly an S plaid. I had several quality issues with all of them. The plaid was so sh**y assembled that I needed to file a lawsuit against Tesla to take it back.

Yes, the plaid was absolutely mindblowing in terms of acceleration, but quality wise it is a joke. I switched about two weeks ago to a macan 4S and couldnā€™t be happier. The macan is a much better car, so much better designed and the quality is outstanding. On the first 5 minutes of my first ride I had the feeling that this is a rock solid car.

Things I noticed and miss in the macan

- cameras are garbage
- no sentry :-(
- UI runs at 30hz and appears a bit laggy
- no iPhone key

the Teslas have the better built-in UI but you donā€™t use most of the functions on a daily basis and CarPlay in the macan is a 10/10. So itā€™s not a downgrade at all.

Ah yes, and it feels better to be the Porsche guy rather than the tesla Guy šŸ˜€

Have a M3P Highland and a Macan Turbo on order. Canā€™t wait.

The Rivian is one of the worst cars Iā€™ve ever driven. Pretty interior. Thatā€™s about the only positive I have.

Pasted below is an informative excerpt from an article about RAS confirming it works at low speeds. The driving instructor at PEC Atlanta highly recommended this feature as well, even after I told him I wouldnā€™t be track racing the car, since he said it provided more control at highway speeds in addition to a tighter turning radius at low speeds.

Iā€™ll let you know how I like it when I pickup my 4S in two days. After driving Teslas since 2013, I figured I might as well add this unique feature to my first Porsche and dropped a few cosmetic options to partially offset the cost.

Macan EV 4

First time poster. Please excuse the length of my post. I would like thoughts from Macan EV owners who came from a Tesla.

I am considering ordering a new Macan 4S EV.

I drive a Tesla Model Y LR (AWD). Previously I had a Tesla Model 3 LR (AWD). I have never owned a Porsche.

I realize that the Macan EV is much more a driver's car than the Tesla, and has a more premium interior and feel, but it is missing some tech.

I am interested in hearing what people have experienced who have moved from a Tesla to a Macan EV.

Dog Mode. As to tech, I currently use Dog Mode (not for a pet but for ease when out on a hot day).

View of Side Cams. Also, I really like and rely on the feature added after our purchase of having the left or right side cam view open automatically when you put on a turn signal.

Dashcam. I also read that the Porsche dashcam is inferior - worse app, worse camera, only views front and back (not the sides).

Navigation & charging. I don't roadtrip much, but it looks like the Porsche navigation app is not as simple or robust as the Tesla navigation app in directing your charging.

ASS (the tech feature, not the owner of the company). My Tesla was recently updated to include Actually Smart Summon and I had an occasion to use it: A large box truck parked next to me in a shopping center parking lot; so close that I couldn't open my door to get back in the car. I used ASS to back the car out of the space and then got in and drove off. Not a likely scenario, but it was a cool feature to use.

OTA Updates. I like the over-the-air updates which Tesla provides, for new features as well as for safety updates. I expect that with Porsche, you may get OTA safety updates, but pretty much won't continually get feature updates. Do you miss that aspect of owning a Tesla?

Regenerative Braking. I use full regenerative braking (one-pedal driving), but I believe I will get used to the Porsche approach - coasting and heavy (but not complete) regenerative braking by touching the brake pedal.

Auto-hold on Stop. I like the Tesla auto-hold on stopping, but I believe I will get used to the old way of driving and holding.

Screen vs. Buttons. I don't mind the use of a screen for virtually everything in the Tesla. I haven't had a car with as many buttons as the Macan in many years, but I assume that I will re-learn the use of the various features with buttons.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.
I agree with the tech.. simple things are missing! I miss driving up to my garage, the door opening automatically, mirrors folding automatically, iPhone cable FOB, easy option for valet parking, automatic parking features, and many other simple things.. I was not Looking for the same as my Teslaā€¦ it was always about the driveā€¦ I love the ride of the Porsche, the feel of the wheelā€¦ I hate electrify America option and earlier frustrations with plug and chargeā€¦ this took two months to resolve with much time wasted and free charge time lost.

I use the MyQ from Chamberlain and it opens automatically based off my phones geolocation.

Mirrors do fold automatically - itā€™s a setting.

I miss the phone key for sure but not the end of the world.
