Macan 4S ordered PSE7UUQ8. Dec 20 Delivery
Country flag
I read this and immediately contacted my SA, as I have the same delivery date. He sent me a screenshot of my order. It's still a 9/30 freeze, and it's still a 12/3 delivery for me. If the acoustic glass situation causes a delay, that'll suck, but it's not so important that I'll wait for it.
Thanks for letting me know your situation. Glad yours is still on track. Let me know if it holds on the timeline. Had I not seen his screenshot it would have made me a bit suspicious. Maybe mine was in line after yours. Good luck.

I've had both. I'd spec it given the option, but I'd shrug it off if it's not available.

I should also note the jump from 20" tires to 21s or especially 22s will likely introduce more noise than acoustic glass eliminates.

So if you're looking to reduce cabin noise, smaller tires are the best place to start. Then acoustic glass. But I wouldn't be too concerned over missing out, it's nice but hardly game changing.

I would think that the difference with or without laminated glass is most noticeable on the motorway as wind and tyres will make themselves heart. I don't care about city driving.

People on the taycan forum seem fine with the standard glass.
People do not seem fine with it on the Taycan forum. There are pros and cons to this option and for absolute clarity this is the option we are talking about below.

The biggest reason this would be a must have for me is because Macan windows are frameless just like Taycan, so standard glass is very thin and flimsy with doors open (on the Taycan), where this option makes the glass more substantial being double pane with inner layer in between. However, the downside is cell phone reception, although I have no issues, even after tinting all windows but front, and then having very thick front window protection film (Exoshield). Also, you have to place the toll road readers in a particular spot near the mirror.

Since Taycan has very large sunroof, I have not noticed much of heat protection, even on a mild day, interior getting hot pretty quickly, but having pre-conditioning option, makes it a non-issue for short stops or cooling the car down before a drive if standing outside in direct sun. Also, Taycan is so low to the ground and so quiet, I am not noticing any acoustic protection either, I can hear physical brakes at work, road noise on a local road or on a highway (all-season 21-inch tires), brake noises from other cars, or music from other cars.

Not sure I have any protection on my Modal 3 and it gets pretty bad inside without preconditioning. I drove a Q5 recently that had thermal and noise isolation and I could tell the difference for sure. Didn't have to drive with sunglasses that's for sure. But if you've never been in a car without this pack, then you will not miss it. 😅

@SergeyIndy the OEM All-Season 21s on the Taycan are incredibly noisy, notoriously so. Going to 20s vastly improves the noise.

My 4S with 20s and no acoustic glass was slightly less noisy than my Turbo S with 21s & acoustic glass, while the Turbo S with 20s was quieter than the 4S.

All 3 were quiet, with the 21 inch tires on the Turbo S w acoustic glass being the most annoying sound any of the 3 iterations let in. fwiw.

A note about the Thermally and Noise Insulated Glass: it is stronger, thinner, and lighter than standard glass. The three plastic layers between two sheets of glass replace the weight of glass and are slightly thinner and lighter than the glass they replace. They also make the composite stronger than only glass. The downside is reduced cell phone signals, but we love it over standard glass, especially the heat reduction in the summer.

My build includes the Thermally and Noise insulated Glass and just moved to V260 (Vehicle Entry to Body Shop) today (October 16th).

For reference, change freeze point (V210) was reached on September 11th and vehicle fixed (V250) on September 23rd. And FWIW, I'm in Canada.

Not sure if anything can be read into this. Maybe I caught the tail end of availability for this option?

Thanks for that update. My freeze date is now Oct 10/25. Delivery in early part of Jan if nothing changes. Final build PSK4FTZ3.

I finalized my 4S order a couple weeks ago and was told my delivery date is est. as end of February. I had to take thermal glass off my order due to the supply issues. If not I was told the EARIEST my order date would be 1/1/2025. I realize there is some conflict of interest, but my SA indicated there is no guarantee on timing and she has seen these supply chain issues go on for a while in other instances. I just gave up the option as I’m not willing to wait indefinitely.

I was researching whether window tinting reduces noise as an alternative. I ended up finding a site (https://www.s-lecfilm.com/en/sound-auto/) that does acoustically laminated glass...heck maybe they supply to Porsche! Anyway, they say their tests reduce overall car noise by 3.7%. Take that as you will...to me, I thought that number was a lot lower than I would have guessed this upgrade would achieve.

So, it's complicated. Acoustic Glass is good at reducing certain noises, or containing certain noises, but useless against others. Just saying 3.7% isn't realistic.

It also will change the characteristics of the noise, making the same volume of noise more palatable to some.

In general it IS a pretty minor difference. I do find tire noise is something it's particularly good at blocking, hence more need for it with larger wheels.

Anyone that's installed "acoustic" glass at a noisy house or condo will tell you that certain noises, motorcycles, etc.., will still pierce it as easily as regular glass.

I'd love to find a good aftermarket tinting that is known to have really good acoustic properties...almost want that more than the tinting doing some actual tinting! But I cant seem to find anything like that. Sounds like most impact is with sandwiching the material rather than having it on one end...much like in music studios needing the dead air space in between two walls for sound isolation.

This option should also prevent break-ins right? They can crack the glass but it won't come off easily like normal tempered glass.

I'm told there is a stop sale on it currently so I'm waiting on my allocation until this option is available. Not in a rush since they're still working out the kinks of the early batches.

Do you have a source for this? I find this surprising.
