How did people cope before electricity was available at the flick of a switch? Running water was in most houses? Food was available in the supermarket and people no longer had to hunt? Sunglasses allowed not to be blinded in the summer?

Progress and new tech bring comfort.
Sure, we could “cope” without most things but that would be a shame/waste, no?
RAS is old tech - 1985 being the first implementation.

Pay your money and make your choice - my point all along here is that is not essential and less so in shorter vehicles.

The end

It is small compared to a Panamera, Taycan and Cayenne - yes I've owned all 3.
Vs Taycan:

Vs Panamera:

Vs Cayenne:

Clearly, the difference between the Macan and these 3 is huge, both in terms of wheelbase and overall length. 😂

Alright I give up. The Macan is tiny.

Try sitting in the back of your Macan if 6' to cement the notion.

We've been through this discussion before with W1NGE. Wheelbase is what counts when discussing RAS, and he failed to appreciate the Taycan and Macan EV essentially have the same wheelbase.

He has RAS on his Taycan and claimed it was "probably worth having" on 12th Feb, despite the fact that RAS on the Taycan doesn't turn to the level it does on the Macan, yet on that car it is "pointless". 😄

I can't take him seriously.

I just love reading you guys!
What a debate. Some strong argumentations, counter-argumentation’s, opinions, facts and words

At the end of the day, as one said, those who paid for it must appreciate it, and those that passed , well just live without it.

I just hope mine will arrive soon. It’s been at the local port for the last 12 days. With RWS….!

I have owned 2 RAS equipped Taycans so know what I'm talking about. I have a 7m parking slot where I have to park tail and nose between 2 concrete walls. I also park my wife's Macan there (a doddle) and the Panamera when I owned it which had no RAS and to be honest was just as easy to park. Both Taycan and Panamera (more or less same length) could be parked in one reverse and forward manoeuvre implying RAS didn't really contribute much to the parking.
So do you want us to congratulate you on how amazing you can park?
Can someone park without RAS: of course. But it does definite save valuable time in my busy day - so for me it is worth. This is not about being able to park at all or not. But more steering angle (same applies to the front axle) just means avoiding one or more correction and hence saves time. But it also really depends where you usually park.
Its quite a useless discussion, if it wouldn’t be useful people wouldn’t order it - most Macans I see here have it equipped.

Ignore W1nge, he’s always argumentative and has an odd perspective on many discussions here. I remember an argument about model years which he just would never concede on, despite just being flat out wrong.

RAS at 5 degrees on the Macan is awesome, it really is a much more impressive than RAS on our iX M60 which is 3 degrees. If you have a tight driveway like ours, with the drive being at right angles to the garage entrance it makes a massive difference to the reversing manoeuvre.

For clarity it's RAS (Rear Axle Steering) and not Rear Wheel Steering (RWS).

Sorry to be a pedant but accuracy is important.

I have the same configuration and agree strongly that RAS is a big help turning in. No more backing up and readjusting the angle of the car.

W1nge

Trying my best here but I’ll then stick to
Roues arrières directrices.

Ça sera encore plus parfait pour moi.
Et pour toi aussi.

Voilà

Same here. Only with RAS I can do a clean U-turn on my home street in the city

Even in English it is described as “Active steering of the rear wheels” on the feature list. I’ve generally got no issue with pedantry, but it really only works when something is very well established. I don’t think “rear wheel steering” is confusing or sounds wrong.

Regardless, the OP wasn’t asking about how useful it is, or what the proper terminology is, just how to tell if the feature he paid for is working.

I have skipped the argument section of this thread and just have this comment, as I have RAS and find it very noticeable:

Try driving below 10mph and waggling the wheel back and forth (make S's) - in a parking lot, down an alley, whatever. You should feel a sensation of the rear end floating opposite the front end as you waggle back and forth. Another way to feel it at low speeds is to accelerate from 5-20mph relatively quickly while turning 90º. Try coming out of a parking lot or making a right angle turn from a stoplight. Don't floor it; that's not necessary to feel what I'm talking about - and stay below 20 mph to start. That's for the low speed RAS (opposite of the way your front wheels are turning).

For high(er) speed RAS (above 20mph), I think the sensation is easiest to notice by turning less sharply - like changing lanes at speed - you'll feel like you're drifting sideways (drifting like a boat, not a "drift" car) into the next lane, as opposed to pointing into it with the front end and then pointing the front end back forwards again once you're in the lane.

Anyway, if you can't feel it, either it's not working, or . . . I can't help you. It's VERY noticeable. So if you still don't feel it, go to a dealership and test drive one they tell you has RAS to see if it feels different from yours. Maybe they didn't include it even though they should have . . . but you should be getting it if you paid for it!
