Macan 4 now or 4S in 5 months?

Hi all!!!!

Yet to decide which one to buy. I went to the dealer. and he told me that if I want the Macan 4 will probably be delivered in April but if I wan’t the 4S I’ll need to wait till August/September.

The specs are the same in both(took some extras in the 4 that matches the 4S) the only difference (as far as I know) will be the motor and also the colored break calipers.

I was decided to buy the 4S but not sure if I will be able to wait five more months…🤯

Any advice??
The 4 is decidedly slow compared to the 4S - I couldn’t live with a 4 but many can.

I'm living in Europe, so I don't expect a price increase due to tax changes. (unless it is a general thing across all the countries. Here in Spain the car is already more expensive than in the US)

It was not a matter of money, the difference is only 4-5K. It was more about the time without the car. But now, I'm fully convinced to wait for it. As some folks said, if I don’t wait, I might regret the decision in the future

I’ve driven both models and definitely think the 4S is worth the wait given the significant difference in acceleration and nominal difference in price.
In Finland the price difference is 10k euros. Little more challenging to justify it for "just" 1.1s improvement in 0-100 time.

That is a significant price difference. In the U.S. the 4S only cost me about $5000 more for comparable options. The OP said price wasn’t a major consideration for him so in that case I think it makes sense to get the 4S.

Even though it’s only a 1.1s difference, the 4S felt significantly more responsive to me in off-the-line acceleration versus the 4, although much less of a difference in acceleration above 20mph. Coming from a Tesla, the 4S seemed to me to be much more comparable in terms of instant acceleration.

In Canada, it would be really hard to spec a 4S with all the goodies I want and not be over a “luxury car tax” threshold and essentially adding an additional 5% to the cost of the car. Therefore, the extra acceleration was definitely not worth it in my case

did you sign a contract with noway out? i am asking because this delay is very unusual. i switched from 4S to turbo and the delay was 4 weeks and this model is really different. may be your dealer needs a bit of pressure? i do not know the situation in spain but porsche.de has plenty new 4s available right now: https://finder.porsche.com/de/de-DE...on=new&model=macan&category=macan-4s-electric
plus the resell situation might get tricky given the small price difference between 4 and 4s….

Your choice really depends on how you drive. If you sprint from light to light and want and can handle that extra push coming out of corners on a mountain road then get the 4S. I have had my 4 for 2.5 months and I find it has plenty of power to have fun in the hills, and even racing to the next stoplight when the mood strikes me, while also getting over 300 miles on road trips, with plenty of power to pass. Just this past Saturday I spent 90 minutes driving a turbo on the track at PECLA, Porsche gave me a complimentary 90 minutes and I chose the Macan EV to learn how to drive it better from a Porsche drive coach. Obviously, the turbo has more acceleration but in the corners and slalom it handles just like my 4. I love my car. I've had zero problems, only having to reset the PCM once when it forgot how to load Car Play. So decide based on how you really drive 95% of the time and you won't be disappointed with the other 5%.

I'll counter with wait is not worth it for most people because standard Macan 4 is plenty fast.

And I'd rather have the lower cost and extra range.

And then there is the third option of a lightly spec'd Turbo... :cool:

In all seriousness, it might be worth looking at if you are purchasing vs leasing. The resale will be higher although the resale market is not likely to be great.

I’m not sure if it relevant in Spain, but in the UK some insurers consider the 4S to be a ’supercar’ as it’s 0-60 mph is less than 4 seconds. I had to switch insurers as my previous insurer wanted an extra £ 1,000 / year to insure a 4S over a 4.

I found an insurer that charged only £ 100 / year more, but it took some finding.

Doubt it is the case in Spain. Spaniards are not as cautious and like to live on the edge! Lol

Sounds good.
Which insurer was that?
I think you mentioned before, NFU were about £100 cheaper.

Awaz - NFU were competitive quoting for a 4 - it was NFU that ramped up the price when I said I was getting a 4S. After reading on here about Admiral, I got a great quote from them so went with a multi quote for the 4S, my wife’s Yaris and house insurance for nearly £ 2k cheaper than NFU.
