Never mind the wording, Porsche should correct it. But more interestingly, it would be nice to know if everybody who is interested in doing a comparable test to really get to the bottom of this … almost 6% more efficient is nothing to sneeze at …
Life is too short!

So here's an interesting change.... I just took the car to the gym, and i noticed i had no braking regen....
Battery was about 56*f, outside temp is 32*f.... Battery is about 66% charged....
So I'm very curious as to why the car would turn it off. I'd i turned on the "thrust regen", it would happen as usual, even during braking. But with regen off, i had 0 regen on the brakes

Is this a weather dependent thing?

Which instrument dial shows regen? Do you have a picture?

the middle tube with the speed...where the dial goes green or blue.

The car relies on friction braking if the battery is unable to accept a charge, either because it's full, too hot, or too cold. But I would have thought that at 56F you would still get regen.
that's exactly why i was noting the temperatures. the car is garage kept, so that's why the temp was that high when it's actually snowing out...
Now on my way home from the gym, I had regen. The battery was about the same temp...the only difference is now the car sat in the cold for a while...

The only thing i can think of, is that the car wanted to "warm up" the friction brakes...yet, they would have been colder on my way home, when i had regen

Weather (cold) will be a factor for sure as will standstill time.

I set up the regen as my custom steering wheel button. I only use it in city driving. I definitely agree that coasting is more efficient especially at highway speeds.

my last car- Etron had paddle shifters so I had the option of two levels of regen. What I found was I enjoyed the ability to manually choose to “downshift” and I had over 90,000 miles on the car and never needed brakes replaced.

with the Macan I heard the regeneration occurs through the brakes and I do notice the dial going into the green so I believe that is true. And when I hit the brake pedal am I using the brakes or motor regen to a certain point before it uses the brakes?

I am also seeing is quite a lot of brake dust on the rims. So I am expecting that brake pads will need to be replaced similarly to an ICE vehicle.

any thoughts about that?

Depending on conditions your car will use the motors to slow down if you enabled recuperation. This method is known as overrun recuperation and simulates engine braking in a mon EV.

Using the brake pedal and depending on how hard you press the pedal the discs will also come into play (e.g. early days of ownership and heavy / emergency braking) will also use the motors to slow the car down (after the first mile or so driven).

As this is a new car with few miles on it then the discs will be used more and hence the presence of brake dust. After 700 or so miles this will change and the motors will do most of the braking.

The green bar shows when either overrun or braking recuperation is active. Braking adds more energy back than overrun.
