I've lost count of the number of glitches in my Turbo, from false seat belt unfastened warnings, to windows opening randomly, to incorrect time displayed on the PCM, to charging errors. It's simply not good enough. I was considering a lower powered Macan for my wife to replace the C-Class, but I've ruled that out now.

I have that Macan, since mid-November, no issues.
Occasional 'restricted assistance system' message - very rare - but it clears itself.

After initial 2-week hiccup (and replaced comms module, was a 15min job at the end that took so long to diagnose) I’ve been happily driving. Love the car. A keeper for many years to come.

as a data point mine has none of those issues…

it does seem as though the Macan can have numerous software issues - and either you get one that has issues or you don't - I would suggest being more digitial that any car Porsche has ever produced that one "bad" component on car's network (CanBUS) can cause phantom faults to appear in other systems -and it can be a challenge for a technician to find the faulty component…

I do not believe there is a large number of failures in terms of the entire fleet, but it fairly clear the entire fleet is subject to fault components causing problems with individual vehicles - and to date Porsche has not demonstrated competence in quickly diagnosing and replace core faulty components on vehicle's demonstrating problems.

the car is fragile - but not necessarily broken.

As a data point, I've owned 22 cars over the last 23 years, all but two of them from new. I've had 12 BMWs, 7 of which were M cars, 3 VWs, 2 Audis, and numerous other vehicles, and I simply haven't had anywhere near as many issues as I've had with my three most recent Porsches (two Taycans and the Macan). I fail to recall any particular problems with any of them. No software glitches, windows coming down unexpectedly, recalls.

This reply isn't intended to be snarky, and I hope it doesn't come across that way, but what other people are experiencing is kind of irrelevant. I have my own data point, and it tells me that without a shadow of doubt the most unreliable manufacturer is Porsche, and it's not even close. Somebody else on here not having issues at all doesn't change the experience I've had.

I've already said I'm not considering a Macan RWD for my wife, and I will seriously think twice about the Taycan GTS I was planning on to replace my Macan Turbo in about 12-months.

you are welcome to your “own data point” but your conclusion that porsche ”is the most unreliable” manufacturer based solely on your own experience is questionable. especially as you obviously made the same mistake to buy porsche ev three times in a row.

I wonder how many of these 22 cars were either EV or a brand new platform - both Taycan J1 and Macan PPE being brand new developments.

The only real issue I'm experiencing on my Macan currently is that Brake regen isn't consistently available in "Coast" mode for some reason. This has been talked about on other threads so i won't rehash. Its super erratic and as a result my efficiency has been all over the map currently (on top of its normal variability to start off with e.g. temp, elevation, etc). Everything else has been fantastic

Whilst it is no real defence of a defective car being sold, I do think all manufacturers are suffering from ‘issues’, particularly software. I sold my Range Rover I had for 2 years from new as I never knew for sure it’s wasn’t going to have an ‘issue’. I bought a Lexus, their first EV, specifically due to their reputation for exceptional build and reliability. Numerous problems including not being able to charge on home / ac chargers for 6 weeks whilst a replacement charging module came from Japan. The software was cr*p and the 12v battery was always of concern.
It’s not much solace if you have a duff car, but the likelihood of it is more prevalent now than it was in the past - except in the UK when cars were made by British Leyland when every car seemed to be made on a Friday !

I agree that our own experiences are the most important data point for us individually.

However when the discussion goes from “I had a bad experience” to “everyone is having a bad experience” (implied by blanket claims about a brand or model), your data point is just a blip and everyone else is just as welcome to share their data.

I’ve had multiple recalls on Audis, BMWs (one three months old and in the shop for six weeks), and every car forum is littered with threads like these. I’m sorry and I don’t wish anyone a bad experience with any purchase, but without a multinational survey and data this is just another anecdotal thread, someone letting off some steam.

I never claimed that Porsche is the most unreliable manufacturer, period. I was talking about within my own experience. I even highlighted that it was just my own experience by highlighting the words in bold, yet even this is seemingly lost on some sensitive souls on here. It would be a pretty stupid thing for me to say, wouldn't it? I would have to have owned and run a large number of cars from every manufacturer in order to have enough data to make that conclusion. It's a sad state of affairs that this has to be explicitly made clear, but here we are.

So let me rephrase; of all the manufacturers I've owned, Porsche has been by far the most unreliable.

At no point have I claimed any of this. Please see my comment above.

It's weird that some people seem personally offended that I'm criticising a car they also own, like it's some kind of affront to them.

Surly, it is hugely disappointing to have problems like Throb and some others are having, after spending around 100k on a car. I do feel for those who suffered, after spending so much.

And some have been unluckier than the others. But all in all, majority Macan owners on this poll have been happier (happy/mostly happy). Out of that sample poll, just 11% with several issues and a ruined experience, keeping in mind that most who search these forums often have gremlins/problems.
So, all in all not so bad, and wouldn't be worse than some other brands, in my view.
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum...-poll-for-current-macan-ev-owners-only.18058/

And doing Google search, AI says:
Based on recent reliability surveys and reports, car brands like MG, Alfa Romeo, Vauxhall, Nissan, Land Rover, and some models from Audi, Mercedes, and Fiat are often cited as having a higher likelihood of problems and lower reliability scores.”

according to porsche:
“From January to March, 23,555 examples of the Macan were handed to customers (+14 per cent). Over 60 per cent of these (14,185 vehicles) were the all-electric variant. In most countries outside the EU, Porsche continues to offer the previous Macan as a combustion-engine model in parallel. 9,370 units of this variant were delivered.”

Out of 14.185 Macan EV there are you and a handful of others that are complaining about this car. You wrote:

“I have my own data point, and it tells me that without a shadow of doubt the most unreliable manufacturer is Porsche, and it's not even close.”

The data suggest that Porsche Macan is -esp. given the fact that it is a complete new car - one of the most reliable cars on the market.

Given that I've already told you I'm not commenting on Porsches in general and the global reliability rate, why are you telling me this?

Your position seems to be, "other people aren't having problems, so stop whinging about yours", which is bizarre.
