I know at least one other forum member has experienced seeing a series of error messages at start up (and the car won’t start):
- Engine control error, park vehicle safely
- Please charge battery
- Charging not possible, visit workshop
- High voltage system error, service required
- Charging not possible, visit workshop

After locking the car and waiting a few minutes, we can restart the car with no problems.

Obviously, these messages are spurious given they disappear after a 5 minute shutdown. It’s some software bug, not mechanical catastrophe.

Has anyone else besides Yves and I experienced this? If so, do you just live with it until such time that Porsche issues a patch? Or are you scared to take it on long trips?

Software glitches as per Taycan

I had 3 “false” warnings in the first 500 km:
  • Main battery error
  • Front headlight lamp error
  • Car too low.
Both vanished after a close / wait 5 minutes / reopen cycle.
Since then no other error (and I’m at 6600 km).

I haven’t encountered this issue. My Macan 4 has 2,162 miles.

I have not seen that error either after 1500 miles, but have seen another charging error. It happened after I took the car out and plugged it in on return. I got an error that showed up as “Charging not possible precool heat” in the PCM. The error also showed up as red lights on the charger. I suspect preheat does not clear if you take the car out before it completes. After disconnecting and unplugging the charger. I was able to remedy this and charge the car.

Also noticed that a preheat restarted the morning after I used it without a schedule when I opened the app. I had to manually deactivate it. Watch this feature carefully to make sure it is behaving properly if you decide to use it

Thanks so much Diego (and Yves). Given you both have had similar experiences to mine, I'm going to assume my errors are "gremlins".

So, I will retrieve our car from the service on Monday and take it on its first road trip down the California coast (with our bikes on the back). The weather is going to be glorious next week and I can't wait to finally see what the car can do.

We have to return the car to service on Dec 9 to replace the failed tailgate motor as it should have arrived from Germany by then. If they want to hunt for the gremlins then, they can.

And thank you for sharing the "5 minute cycle". It has brought me some relief as I was beginning to think I had purchased a lemon. I'm a bit surprised my dealership didn't know such a simple trick.

I did actually got the same you had on the first day, second drive when I picked up my new car.
Never happened again. I did also a factory reset through the infotainment system… I don’t know if that helped.

I'm saddened to hear this - but unsurprised it clears after a bit - all my Porsche's have momentary "faults" that clear themselves - it seems endemic to the brand - I have similar "faults" with my Taycan, 911, Cayenne - I've learned in years of Porsche ownership to ignore faults until they "persist" - most of the time they are transient - also if the car is allowing itself to be "driven" it's also not that bad - if I have faults but it's not affecting my driving I simply note for the next time I'm going to service, rather than schedule a service visit…

modern cars are a maze of mulitple computers talking to each other - faults are generated when they can not see/speak to each other - sometimes these are just temporary race conditions in start up conditions where all the computers are waking up all at once and overwhelm the can-bus with too much chatter … so they report that they can't see their peer computers - but by the time they generate that report everything has quiesced and is working fine "now"…

so far knock on battery-wood - my Macan "faults" have been minimal an nothing to be concerned about, and have cleared themselves.

ignore the faults until they persist…normally they won't persist…that's been my experience.

@ExVolt Have nice drive and ride Rick (with a lot of envy for your drive along the CA coast... I have to wait another 1,5 month before I can be there....)
