Coming from a Taycan 4S, no HUD since it is 2020. Daily commute is 30 miles. Use Google Maps in Apple CarPlay which I understand won't work with the display?

Whether you even need RWS is so much dependent on your garage, driveway turns or not and whether you live in a sharp turn large urban enviroment or do most of your driving in the country.

I have both and like them. If you can afford it, get both. The HUD lets me keep my eyes on the road and makes driving safer. The RWS makes the car more agile and I like being able to maneuver in tighter spaces. Once you have driven a car with these features you may regret not having them again.

I have both. My last 2 cars had HUD and I grew dependent on it. I don’t find it distracting as some say and I take my eyes off the road less often. I haven’t had enough time with the car to notice anything significant about RWS but I do know u-turns are incredibly easy on residential streets.

If you need to chose, RWS is more useful than the HUD. The HUD provides the same situational awareness info as thats available on the dash. There is no alternative for RWS. If 90% plus driving is highway and in traffic, situational awareness becomes more important and the HUD presents it better than the dash.

Most folks get tired of the HUD after the novelty wears off and shuts most of it off. I dunno of anyone that gets tired of RWS.

I need to wear reading glasses so HUD is almost mandatory … the RWS is really nice and have it on Macan and iX … it makes the cares agile, like a class smaller … The Porsche is more aggressive in this respect and almost makes it like driving a cart.

It all comes down to preferences and needs. I had a HUD in my BMW and liked it a lot. I would not had bought a car without it. And the Macan’s is 100% better! I would had skipped the RWS if I had to choose between one or the other. Fortunately, I could get both and I don’t regret it. For the younger ones with perfect vision and sharp reflexes the HUD may not be as helpful. For the slightly older like me with declining vision or the ones with visual problems it helps a lot and makes driving safer. For those who have had cataract surgery or for the ones developing presbyopia and in need for reading glasses, having the information in front of you and in focus at a distance is invaluable! It also helps with nighttime driving. And is not that distracting as much, as your brain gets used to “ignore the information” until you need it. You can also adjust the brightness and can turn it off easily by pushing the rotating (volume) knob on the left. You can turn it off, but not turn it on if you don’t have it! ;)
Finally, it even works with polarized sunglasses. It dims it a little but it’s still readable.
The RWS is a nice option to have as it makes driving more enjoyable, but it’s not “medically necessary”… sorry again, it’s the physician side of me! 😂

Agree to a lot of what you say. I have the same eyesight issues with age. I even tried ZEISS DriveSafe lenses in my glasses, but I notice no improvement.
I had HUD in BMW i4, and liked it a lot. In this one, AR HUD is even better. The dimensions of these two cars are almost the same. Length is exactly the same, and width about 8 cm more in Macan. My, SA also suggested RAS is not really needed in this size car and I know, some have had the opposite recommendation from their SA.

I guess I have not experienced RAS, so I don't miss it. Importantly, my parking is always parallel parking next to the curb, almost 99% of the time, as I live in a flat. Some have observed RAS makes parking difficult or different in that case, or makes you to getting used to, as RAS handles differently in that scenario, let's put it that way.

But I get it, there are advantages to having RAS for those with a garage, and for a tighter turning circle etc, but not a 'must have', in my scenario.
If I have to choose between the two, my choice clearly would be HUD, and I did that.

Agree with the majority of posters. I have both and wouldn’t be without either. It took me a while to decide on RWS, but would give a slight edge to the utility of RWS for tight parking situations. However the HUD gives you a lot more situational awareness than you have otherwise. I value it most in heavy traffic, when paired with Porsche navigation and the driver assistance features.

The more driver assistance features you have, the more useful the HUD becomes. If you decide against Innodrive and LKA you won’t need the benefits of the HUD warning you about upcoming decisions it makes on your behalf. I also use the HUD during garage parking since the Macan is packed into a garage with bicycles, etc.
